On the 26th of September 2019, Drakes Supermarket group unveiled a brand new multi million dollar distribution centre, stimulating job growth and marking independence for the supermarket giant.
Located in Edinburgh North, South Australia, the $125 million, 17-hectare state-of-the-art project is expected to create approximately 550 jobs in South Australia. The change comes as Drakes realises it can help it's consumers save more money by moving forward independently. Managing Director, Roger Drake says, "Our aim is to save the average South Australian family around $20 per week at the check-out which equates to $1,000 per year, by just having direct relationships with our suppliers and cutting out the middleman".
"With new players such as Kaufland entering the market, it's important to remain competitive" Roger Drake told InsideFMCG.
It is expected that the project will cost Metcash $270 million worth of sales and $16 million in earning.
